Is Once Human Coming to console?

Once Human is a massive looter shooter set in a world ravaged by a paranormal event that's caused all kinds of strange and twisted creatures to start appearing and wreak havoc on those unaffected. It's available on PC now, but fans are desperate to know if the game will come to consoles. At launch, Once Human had a few issues with its privacy policy and players being unable to use controllers, but developer Starry Studio worked with fans to explain how it was approaching the release and what the future of the game looks like. No console support doesn't exactly spell doom for console ports of the game, but the future doesn't look as promising on that front as it does for the PC version. Is Once Human coming to console? Image via Starry Studio At the time of writing, Starry Studio has not announced whether Once Human will be coming to consoles. The game is available on PC, but it lacks controller support and doesn't run particularly well on Steam Deck without that support. The developer will also bring the game to iOS and Android devices in September 2024, so there's a lot for it to work through before it can even start working on ports for the Xbox Series X/S and PS5. Based on a conversation I had with Predecessor developer Omeda Studio, if you're going to eventually bring your game to console, it pays to implement controller support as early as possible. That way, when you do get around to building the console versions, controllers are easy to work with because you've already got support built in. I'd expect Starry Studio to work on getting Once Human running well on Steam Deck before moving on to console versions. However, there appears to be a lot of demand for an Xbox Series X/S and PS5 port. Every post from the developer has comments like, "The game is great so far.. keep up the good work! Also we need controller support for our handheld friends. Or a console release.. or both." There's definitely demand, but it's likely going to take a while for the game to reach consoles. Of course, nothing is out of the question. Games such as Rust have been in early access for years and received console ports long after they appeared on PC. Fans will just have to find a way to enjoy the game on PC and keep an eye on what Starry Studio says while they wait for it to potentially arrive on their console of choice.
